New flight from Liverpool to lovely Prague

CZECH Airlines, the flagship carrier of the Czech Republic,  has announced a twice weekly flight  from Liverpool to Prague is to begin in May.

The city will become the airline’s only UK destination and is one of a number of new European routes announced as part of its latest expansion plans.

Czech Airlines has been in operation since October 1923, making it one of the five oldest airlines in the world.

The Czech Republic capital is often described as one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. In recent years it has become a top stag party destination boasting "the best beer in Europe".  For the rest of you, there are ten major museums, numerous theatres, galleries, cinemas - and mood books like The Good Soldier Svejk and The Unbearable Likeness of Being.

Flights will commence on 18th May 2015, departing on Mondays and Fridays operating year round, departing from Liverpool at 08:55 and return flights departing from Prague at 07:00.

Announcing the flight, Liverpool John Lennon Airport said: "The schedule will be ideal for leisure and business passengers alike giving travellers the opportunity to spend either a weekend or a working week in Prague."

Andrew Cornish, CEO of Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented: “This is great news and another clear indication of our growing reputation, with airlines recognising the business opportunities available by serving the North West market via Liverpool.

"Our research shows that significant volumes of passengers already travel between the Liverpool City Region and Prague but have to fly from other UK Airports. This new service will now mean that the region’s passengers will now be able to travel with the convenience of flying from their airport of choice.”

There are flights from JLA to Innsbruck and Salzburg for the skiing enthusiasts but they only operate during the winter. However, it would be nice to have services throughout the year to those destinations, as there are plenty of people in the North West who like to take summer holidays in Austria.

The Pubs and Bars in Salzburg where all closed on a Sunday when I was there in 1990. You have been warned. Flights to Stockholm would be good. Last time I was there had to fly From Manc via Copenhagen out and via Frankfurt on the way back.

I have stayed in Salzburg and wasn't that keen on the place. I much prefer summer breaks in resorts such as Kitzbuhel or Zell am See but have to fly from that other airport.

I was only there because a 737 had lost an argument with a bird. I was on the way back from Mayrhofen.
