23,000 escape from Liverpool this weekend

AROUND 23,000 people will be secretly hoping the glorious English weather turns abysmal as they bear the unbearable this weekend - long queues to jet off abroad from Liverpool.

Yes, the start of school holidays means a mass exodus from John Lennon Airport with the vast majority of passengers heading to the sunshine resorts on the Mediterranean.

JLA says that despite the recent warm spell in the UK, it has been busier in recent weeks with low cost airlines easyJet and Ryanair flying passengers to a host of popular holiday destinations.

Up, up and awayUp, up and away

Spanish resorts including Majorca, Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol are expected to be the most popular with high volumes of passenger traffic also expected to the Greek island of Kos, Tenerife and Bodrum in Turkey.

They say around 600,000 passengers are due to pass through the airport over the next six weeks with flights operating to 15 of the most popular Mediterranean destinations and to four of the main Canary islands.

The airport recommends passengers allow extra time to pass through the airport, arriving up to three hours before departure. This will enhance the joy of the duty free, or perhaps allow one to slip in a few cheeky pints of Stella as the sun comes up.
