THE £72 million Museum of Liverpool opens today, with the architects who were kicked off the job in 2007 claiming it as their own.

Danish practice 3XN has issued a press release taking credit for the building despite being sacked for “performance issues”, and the launching of legal proceedings against the firm by National Museums Liverpool (NML) in May. 3XN in turn has issued a counterclaim.

NML is also threatening legal action against AEW, the practice brought in to replace 3XN. It is being billed as the UK’s largest new national museum in a century.


KNOWSLEY MP George Howarth has called on United Utilities to pay immediate compensation to residents affected by a water mains burst in Huyton on Monday.

Scores of homes and businesses around Lincomb Road and Liverpool Road were evacuated after the 42in pipe burst, creating a 40ft sheet of water.

The Labour MP, backed by colleagues Steve Rotherham, Dave Watts and Joe Benton has tabled a Commons motion demanding "up-front" payments to fund repairs.

He said United Utilities was "unfit" to oversee North West water supplies.


AN international search has been mounted for two Liverpool men who were sprung from a prison van yesterday.

Kirk Bradley and Tony Downes fled after an armed gang stopped the van in Trinity Way, Manchester, on Monday morning,

The men, both 25 and from Liverpool, were being transported to Liverpool Crown Court, where they were on trial accused of conspiracy to possess firearms with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to commit criminal damage with intent to endanger life.
