THE £72 million Museum of Liverpool opens today, with the architects who were kicked off the job in 2007 claiming it as their own.

Danish practice 3XN has issued a press release taking credit for the building despite being sacked for “performance issues”, and the launching of legal proceedings against the firm by National Museums Liverpool (NML) in May. 3XN in turn has issued a counterclaim.

NML is also threatening legal action against AEW, the practice brought in to replace 3XN. It is being billed as the UK’s largest new national museum in a century.
