Croxteth councillor Rose Bailey, who was due to be Liverpool's next Lord Mayor, has died suddenly.

She was visiting her son’s family in Germany when she suffered a fatal heart attack.Cllr Bailey had represented Croxteth since 1998.

City Council leader Joe Anderson said: “No-one ever had a bad word to say about Rose. We all really thought the world of her.”

Sex and the City's Kim Cattrall has picked up her honorary fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University.

Accompanied by her proud mother Shane Cattrall at a ceremony in the city's Anglican cathedral, the 53-year-old who plays sex-mad Samantha said the accolade for services to “the dramatic arts” was "a dream come true".

Trollies at dawn is over for now as peace breaks out in the bitter war between Tesco and Sainsbury's over the key regeneration scheme Project Jennifer.

It comes less than two weeks after the High Court rejected Tesco’s plans for the Great Homer Street area of Everton.

The supermarket said it will not appeal the decision, allowing rival Sainsbury’s to press on.

Tesco has also agreed to start negotiations with the city council over a stretch of land it owns in the area which is needed for the project.

The University of Salford has appointed River Media founder Jon Corner as its MediaCityUK director.

The Liverpool media man, who acted as the spokesman for his friends Kate and Gerry McCann when their daughter first disappeared, will retain his role as non-executive chairman at the Liverpool production house. He will be responsible for delivering the University of Salford’s 103,000sq ft, teaching, research and business hub at MediaCityUK.
