The Nifty 250: A sharp look at the day's news in so many words

Friday June 18: University honours SATC star; BNP loving ex-Quiggins owner awaits fate; Rapid Hardware becomes art venue

Published on June 21st 2010.

FORMER QUIGGINS owner and BNP activist Peter Teirney has been found guilty of attacking an anti-fascist demonstrator during a St George’s Day clash.

Jurors took just an hour to unanimously convict the 53 year old, of lashing out at demonstrator Nicholas Barnett with a camera tripod.

Judge John Roberts adjourned sentencing for a probation report to be prepared. The judge said: "have not made a final decision on sentencing. That would be wrong at this stage, but provisionally I am thinking of some kind of community service.”

Any ideas?

SEX And The City star Kim Cattrall is set to be made an honorary fellow at Liverpool John Moores University.

Liverpool-born Kim will be awarded her fellowship for her outstanding and sustained contributions to the dramatic arts on Monday, July 12.

What do you think the odds are that this started as a bloke's idea?

EMPTY buildings across Liverpool City Centre – and there are a lot of them - will be turned into pop-up galleries for the Biennial in September.

The former Rapid Hardware building on Renshaw Street and the derelict Scandinavian Hotel are among those being transformed for the 10-week event.

A huge coil of metal tubing, resembling an air-conditioning system, will take up the top floor of Rapid’s former home.

Organiser Lewis Biggs said: "It'll be £19.99 and when it's gone, it's gone."

That's because she'd never heard of Liverpool until she was about 40! I think Kim should very politely turn this ridiculous accolade down.

Isn't she famous for a little stunt?

I bet there are a lot of senior academics at John Moores University who are embarrassed by this little stunt
