A POLICE investigation is under way after a 57-year-old woman died after plunging more than 80ft in the Church Street Primark store.
A North West Ambulance spolesman said: “The woman suffered a traumatic cardiac arrest at the scene and was treated by paramedics.
“She was taken to hospital in a critically ill condition.”
The incident is the second major fall in the store. In 2008, just days after it opened, a three-year-old girl slipped through a gap by the third-floor escalator. She survived multiple injuries including a broken leg and arm.
UPDATE: The woman had been named as Mrs Susan Wood of Kirkby.
A police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing. The coroner has been notified that there are no suspicious circumstances.
