Something for the weekend – August 17 – 19

JIVE TALKING
Another weekend, another hip and happening night at the Dragon Bar. ‘Playground’ promises to deliver a funky mixture of soulful dancefloor beats.

Talking of hip, add to this, a dose of hop and you’ve got ‘Superfly’, an old school hip-hop & 80s night at Hannah’s Bar, designed to have you fighting for your right to party.
On Saturday night, Bedlam @ Garlands is the place to be if you enjoy dancing with sweaty people ‘til 7 in the morning and on Sunday, Django’s Riff weekly Sludge-A-Thon will this week be relabelled due to its reggae and dub theme. Yes…the night is being dubbed (groan) as a reggae reggae sauce-a-thon, still thankfully featuring such come-down antidotes as pillows, pints and pictionary.

Dragon Bar, Berry Street, 9pm-2am, Free
Hannah’s Bar, Hardman Street, 10pm-2am, £1
Garlands, Eberle Street, 2am-7am, £5
Django’s Riff, Wood Street, 6pm-12am, Free

SALSATIONAL
It’s been described as ‘a whirling kaleidoscope of dazzling colour and seductive glamour’. This weekend’s your last chance to see ‘Lady Salsa’, which pretty much does what it says on the tin. The show sets out to give the audience a history of Cuba through the ages via the aid of red-hot rumbas, mambos, macarenas, and of course, salsa. Throw in some cool Cuban beats and some sexy South American women clad in clothes not suitable for a wet British summer and Roberto’s your uncle, you’re all set for a night on the town, Cuban style. Think Salsa, rum and revolution.

‘NOW THESE DAYS ARE GONE’
A unique exhibition of Beatles photographs will be on display in Liverpool for the first time this Saturday.

The snaps, taken on the set of the Beatles film, ‘Help’, were shot by Michael Peto, a Hungarian photographer famed for his unobtrusive knack of capturing subjects in a relaxed and natural manner.
The exhibition of over 40 photos showcases the Beatles in a collection of intimate settings – at home, in the studio, relaxing between takes and joking on set.
For fans of Liverpool’s most famous sons, this is a unique chance to see them as you’ve rarely seen them before.
