Twitter trends for Liverpool

Find out what's hot - or not

Twitter trends for Liverpool

NEWS just in, via Saatchi and Saatchi, that from today people in Liverpool will be able to get closer to things going in the city.

“Liverpool is one of 100 places worldwide that have been added to Twitter’s Trending cities list,” we are told.

Folks, we have finally arrived!

To clarify: “This means that people in the Liverpool area will be able to see what’s popular on Twitter, right where they live. It joins 99 others around the world, including Yokohama (Japan), Istanbul (Turkey), Ottowa (Canada), Rome (Italy) and Melbourne (Australia).”

Twitter’s PR people on Earth go on to explain that trends highlight things being talked about on Twitter.

“You can see the 'most breaking' breaking news rather than just what’s most popular."

What with all this fuss about Leveson, it's a relief that in this smartphone age we no longer have to rely on the third estate for breaking news in the area.

“Twitter users in Liverpool can now keep abreast of the latest news, hot topics and conversations going on around them,” they say.

Such as?

A glance this morning at our Liverpool’s top 10 trending topics told us all we need to know about the city and its people right now - the things that set us apart from anywhere else in the world. Like “Christmas”, “Xmas” and "#job". But there was at least one thing local: topping the pops was a Nike-sponsored competition to win tickets to the next derby match. Alas, that would be the next Manchester derby match.

In their excitement to get this Twitter robin round to a lot of newsdesks, Saatchi & Co’s find-and-replace feature on the word processor went into meltdown.

“Here’s a selection of accounts from the Edinburgh area you could follow to get you started,” they say before listing the accounts of The Beatles, Rick Astley and everyone’s favourite Hibernian player, Wayne Rooney.

But who cares? the London-based ad agency knows it’s all the same Oop North, and a quick glance at what topics are hot in Edinburgh reveals: “Christmas”, “Xmas”, "#Job" and tickets to, er, that Manchester derby.
