Not Children in Need, Kids in Need...

Spare a few bob to help the 35th KIND Christmas Appeal

Not Children in Need, Kids in Need...

CHARITY begins at home, they say, and with the recession and cutbacks hitting everyone hard this year, there's not much giving expected to be about.

In fact, Liverpool children’s charity Kids In Need and Distress (KIND) is expecting fundraising for its 2010 Christmas appeal to be its most difficult since it began in 1975.

The 35th annual KIND Christmas Appeal in aid of disadvantaged children and families on Merseyside is officially under way and founder Stephen Yip is asking for support.

‘Every penny we raise for the Appeal goes towards helping disadvantaged children and their families from across our region have a Christmas to remember,” he says.

KIND has just over six weeks until Christmas to raise £45,000 and, he says there are a number of ways that people can help.

One is by visiting the charity's shop at the top of Bold Street. Confidential tip: For certain items of furniture and living room accessories, this has proved to be a bit of a find.

Make a direct donation to the KIND Christmas Appeal by sending a cheque made payable to ‘KIND’ to KIND, 19 Back Canning Street, Liverpool, L8 7PB, or visit www.kind.org.uk and make a secure donation on-line.

By donating gifts, toys or unwanted presents, by organising your own fundraising raffle or event in aid of the Christmas Appeal. Spread the word, they say, and tell everyone you know about the KIND Christmas Appeal.

Stephen adds: “All those who benefit from the appeal are referred to us by local agencies who work with disadvantaged children and families all year round, so you can be guaranteed that your donation is reaching those truly in need.

“We know that times are getting hard for everyone at the moment, but we ask people to think of others less fortunate and help us to make a difference this Christmas.’

I have seen at first hand the difference that Stephen and the team and supporters at kind make to people who need help, not just at christmas but they help all year round. Its tough for everyone out there at the moment but I think if we all spent just say £10/£25/£50 less on ourselves and our family this christmas and made a donation to kind it will really make a huge difference to a family's christmas. Good luck with the appeal.
