ONE of the best known names in Liverpool media has joined Liverpool-based October Communications via a short hop across the airwaves of the city's new talk radio station, City Talk 105.9.
Larry Neild, who says he was originally planning to become a full-time host on the station which began broadcasting last week, will continue to present his weekly political programme, The Commons Touch, on Sundays at noon.
Larry said: “I left the Daily Post last November fully intending to become a full-time radio presenter, but it quickly became apparent to me that was not the best use of my abilities and skills. However my links with the broadcasting world will continue with my political programme.
“A number of opportunities came my way in the past few weeks, but the chance to join October, a company I have long admired, was just too good to miss.”
Larry spent more than 30 years in local print journalism, specialising mainly in business and political stories. He took a two-year break from the Liverpool media scene in the mid 1990s to work as an English editor in Beijing for China’s state-run media agency.
It was unclear whether Neild's dog, Ferdie, who was reportedly being trained as a co-host in his fledgling radio career, has a clear role in this new move to October's HQ in Mathew Street, itself said to have a ley line running down it, but the stalwart hack said last night: “I am delighted to have joined October Communications. The hallmarks of my career as a journalist have been trust, integrity and professionalism and I fully intend to apply those attributes to my work in my new role.”
October Communications Director Jon Egan said: “Larry Neild is a terrific addition to our staff at October and we already know our clients are delighted with his arrival. His vast experience of all matters media will be fully utilised for the benefit of our clients.”
