Amateur film makers are being invited to put Liverpool on film in a competition to capture what modern life is like in the city and to celebrate Liverpool’s 800th year (that's this one).
But it's certainly not to be sniffed at. There's a very respectable £5,000 up for grabs for the winner, and a trip to New York thrown in too. So get thinking. The organisers of the competition, Merepark and Ballymore, developers of the £160m Central Village development behind Central Station, say they are looking for short films (three to 10 minutes in length) which embody Liverpool’s “infamous friendly spirit” and tell the story of the people who live here.
But you've got to make it yourself. That means no shaky hands, and a deft touch with the zoom button, although you do not need to have top gear.“It doesn’t matter if your film is shot with professional equipment or a mobile phone,” says Merepark's boss, Richard Peel. “Whether it focuses on your own life experiences or the renaissance of the city, we want to see people’s passion for Liverpool.”
Six films will be short-listed for a screening at FACT on Wood Street, and will be judged by a panel comprising – Merepark’s Richard Peel and Martin Wright from regeneration body Liverpool Vision.
We've already told you what the winner will get, but second and third place winners will receive £3,000 and £1,000 respectively, which has got to be worth a punt.
All entries must be submitted to Liverpool on Film, Paver Smith, 14th Floor, The Plaza, 100 Old Hall Street, Liverpool no later than Friday 8th June.
