Deano's golden beano

It was billed as the social event of the summer. Now you can see pictures from Dean Sullivan's big birthday party, at the Devonshire House, right here

Deano's golden beano

There was the red carpet, there were the snappers at the door, there were rumours that George Michael himself had been spotted in the toilets (where else?) and that Cilla Black herself was on the “gezzy”.

But in the end, the Directors' Club-sponsored “Help Dean Sullivan celebrate his big 5-0” bash was a tiny bit different to what we expected, but all jolly, all the same.

Sure, with a list of 800 invitees available for the public to view online, we at Liverpool Confidential felt it was our duty to support Jimmy as he entered his sixth decade, especially after having revealed to you, a long while back, that the former Brookie star celebrated this particular milestone two years ago.

This time, Dean, 52, blew out the candles on his 50th birthday cake in style. It might not have been the real George Michael who crept in at the tradesman's entrance of the Devonshire House hotel (is there any other kind?). Instead a look-a-sound-a-sing-along-alike. Booo!

Regrettably, there isn't a picture of him here, but you get the picture. Actually, Liverpool Confidential was busy talking to the world's finest blues singers, Connie Lush, in the other room, when bogus George was strutting his thing onstage.

Several so-called luminaries and members of the city's rent-a-crowd, listed in the online guest list, actually didn't make it.

But do you know, dear reader, Dean's do was all the better for it, and he seemed to be having a good time as he worked a room full of chums. The bright sparks who we stumbled across, as they stumbled about the room (blue wristbands for the commoners, silver wristbands for the vips) really did enjoy a somewhat enchanted evening on Edge Lane.

See if you can spot anyone you know in this pile, including one shot of the soon-to-retire radio presenter Norman Thomas who summed the evening up: “I hope I have this much fun when I'm 50.”

What's in a number? Happy birthday Dean.
