If you are rubbish at DIY or can't be bothered sitting at a standstill on a motorway, you might find yourself at something of a loose end this coming bank holiday.
But for those who happen to actually be from Liverpool, there's a chance that if you root around for long enough in your auntie's drawers you will find a little unexpected something to make the weekend rather more interesting.
The Beatles Story museum in the Albert Dock is staging a free valuation event this Sunday and Monday (May 6-May 7) along with the Albert Dock Company and Tracks, the UK’s largest specialist of Beatles and pop memorabilia.
This is the first time the dock has hosted a Beatles and pop memorabilia valuation for over 14 years and experts say they are looking forward to the quality and volume of collectibles that might well be unearthed in attics and cupboards all over the group's home city.
As you might expect, Liverpool has proved to be a rich source of collectable stuff, such as early gig posters like the one pictured, rare photographs, tapes and autographs.
You are encouraged to dig around and bring along Beatles or any other pop souvenirs you own, for that matter. So, failing the former, you may wish to ponder the worth of your Ian McNabb collection, or not.
Paul Wane, of Tracks, says, “We’ve held valuation days on the Beatles’ trail right across the UK but nowhere compares to Liverpool in terms of the amount of quality memorabilia that has come out of one location. If something great turns up it really blows you away, we’ve valued some amazing items recently and I’m very excited about this bank holiday event.”
To have your memorabilia valued for free, register between 9am-10am on either May 6 or May 7 in Anchor Courtyard at the Albert Dock (next to The Yellow Duckmarine Tours). No entry without prior registration. Valuations will take place between 10am-4pm.
