Shops get behind Alder Hey fundraiser

Liverpool One is to sponsor and host Alder Hey's annual fundraiser, The Clothes Throw this October.

The high profile event raised £20,000 last year for the hospital's Imagine appeal.

The Clothes Throw centres around a clothes auction where celebrities, stores and fashion houses donate stylish outfits for people to bid for. Last year The Clothes Throw had fashion donations from the likes of Madonna and Sarah Jessica Parker. But the item that fetched the highest bid was a pair of Shirley Bassey's shoes.

“A tartan pair of Kurt Geigers,” recalls the appeal's Rachel Donohue. “A gentleman fan bought them for £1,000.

This year, the Clothes Throw is also encouraging people to hold their own Clothes Throw parties at home, where they can update their look economically and environmentally by unloading their past season wardrobes.

They will raise money for charity at the same time by asking for a donation for their previously worn, but no longer wanted clothes and accessories.

Liverpool One and Alder Hey Imagine Appeal are already creating bespoke Clothes Throw party packs, which include everything you need to know about creating the perfect Clothes Throw party, say organisers.

Liverpool ONE will become a hub for people to sign up for the parties, collect party packs and make clothes donations. The flagship auction event will also be hosted at there in October.

Chris Done, Senior Fundraising Manager for Alder Hey Imagine Appeal, said: “Alder Hey is the first choice provider of care for more than 80 per cent of the UK’s healthcare commissioners and we are responsible for the health of more children than any other UK hospital. We hope the whole of the UK will get behind us and we’d love to see Clothes Throw parties popping up all over the country. Every pound and penny raised from The Clothes Throw will go directly to Alder Hey Imagine Appeal.”
