For some parents it’s hard enough to get kids to eat popular vegetables such as peas and carrots, let alone seasonal selections like Brussels sprouts. It can even be tough to get some adults to go near those.
In a bid to bring Brussels sprouts to 21st century taste buds, Riverford Organic recently held its first ever Riverford sprout challenge at their annual Festive Fair in Stockley Farm, Cheshire.
More than 100 children from the North West had their first taste of Brussels sprouts at the event and each child was challenged to eat a sprout picked and cooked on the farm that day- many of them actually came back for seconds and thirds.
Families also enjoyed all the activities Stockley Farm has to offer including a festive tractor and trailer ride down to the farm, meeting and feeding the animals, taking part in the festive treasure hunt, participating in the nativity play, festive face painting and meeting Santa in his grotto.
The Riverford cooks held cooking demonstrations throughout the day producing wok fried brussel sprouts, leeks in red wine, spiced celeriac, warm red cabbage salad and creamed parsnips in almonds from the Riverford Cook Book.
Families also had the opportunity to try some of Riverford’s fine range of organic festive food which was on offer.
