THE London Carriage works beat off competition from its near neighbour, 60 Hope Street, and Chaophraya, to be voted the restaurant of “Overall Excellence” at last night's Liverpool Food and Drink Awards.
This latest accolade crowns the end of a big weekend for the restaurant which, as part of the Hope Street Hotel, was one of the main driving forces behind the street's successful Feast at the weekend.
The awards ceremony, part of the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival, run by SK Events, took place at Zeligs in Liverpool One and was compered by Neil Fitzmaurice.
A beaming Peter Kinsella from Lunya picked up the award for The People of Liverpool's Favourite restaurant, against Delifonseca and The Quarter.
Meanwhile, the startled staff of Almond, in West Derby, who arrived late in the proceedings, had barely sat down when their name was called as the winner of the small independent restaurant. Open only 18 months, the other contenders were WAG hang-out Neighbourhood and Italian Club Fish, last year's overall winner.
Alma de Cuba won the Best Bar award. The Ship and Mitre and Palm Sugar Lounge didn't. Better luck next time, eh, people?

What the hell does "best promotion of the festival mean?"
'Wagamama' is a 'restaurant' is it?
I would like to know how many times the people in these highly paid PR agencies who represent one or two of these lesser known restaurants hit the vote button several hundred times so their client would "win". I mean pullllease!
Obviously waiting for half an hour for a bottle of water to be brought, after repeated requests, is something the people love, which will their choice of "favourite" restaurant
'Puschka' ffs.
Sorry, that should say: Obviously waiting for half an hour for a bottle of water to be brought, after repeated requests, is something the people love, which will EXPLAIN their choice of "favourite" restaurant
