THE RUMOURS started going on Liverpool Confidential last September (click here), now it's been confirmed that Jamie Oliver will open in Liverpool One this summer with his first Jamie's Italian restaurant in the North West.
The 6,251 sq ft restaurant, trading on the ground floor of the old Zavvi is situated opposite John Lewis in Paradise Place. It will open in June this year and staff are already being trained.
Simon Blagden, managing director of Jamie's Italian, said: "Liverpool One is the perfect location for a Jamie's Italian. Nowhere is more appropriate for our concept of creating 'neighbourhood' restaurants, inspired by the 'Italian table' where people relax, share, and enjoy each other's company, than Liverpool, a city famed for its character and warm welcome.
Jamie Oliver added: "When people eat at a 'Jamie's Italian', I want them to really get into the food, maybe try something they wouldn't normally try, but always be safe in the knowledge that they're eating good stuff, prepared with love."
Miles Dunnett, head of asset management at Grosvenor Liverpool Fund, said: "Jamie's Italian is a fantastic addition to Liverpool One's dining offer and is yet another reason why Liverpool One has become the region's dominant destination for a great day out. Liverpool One successfully combines shopping with leisure, entertainment and, in the wider city context, cultural and arts facilities. Jamie's Italian is a natural fit and will be a great success."

You are a really useful reader. Thank you.
I have such a big smile on my face after reading this! It's just what Liverpool needs, we are still way behind other cities when it comes to good resturants. I ate at Jamie's fifteen in Cornwall last year and it was brill!
I likes your review of Fifteen the other day.
This is a really useful article and I intend going down once it's up and running. I did notice a typo in the opening sentence that needs to be changed though. It should be confidential.
Sounds great. One thing that Jamie does really well is Italian (maybe not surprising considering his training - Neal Street Restaurant, River Cafe). Hope the restaurant lives up to his reputation.
I likes what I likes too. Some extras spinach on me riccottsas....gerrrk guk guk guk.
The crucial part of this Press Release is where Jamie says "prepared with love". I've never liked the concept of a shouty chef; I don't want my food cooked in an angry atmosphere. It always struck me that a happy team who love their w*rk is what I'd want in a kitchen. Happy to see young Jamie seems to share my view.
about time we had a 'decent' restaurant in Liverpool. As long as it is staffed correctly and not with the usual 'cant be bothered' type. It always amazes me how people plough lots of money into restaurants and let crap staff run them!!!......
