Gordo’s Restaurant News

The Most Magnificent and Awesome Opening This Year: Manchester235

Take it from Gordo, this is going to be the opening of the year; he has just had the delightful Sarah Ward in the office telling him all about it. This October. In the Great Northern Warehouse, a live venue, two restaurants, a six am licence, a boardroom, this place is having fortunes spent on it. It will be very upmarket. If you want in on the opening parties Click here and send Gordo an email with ‘count me in’ in the body. You have to be over 18. Tell a friend as well.

Lounge 10, The Ultra Sexy Restaurant.

Kit put on a cracking evening for the new menu last night. Invited guests included Sugarvine, The Magazine with Amanda and Teresa looking lush, the delightful Drew from Marketing Manchester and over sixty other lovable lunatics all treated to a three course dinner from the new menu. The food was Uber.. Kit and his team out front were impressive. Gordo is going to do an official review in the next four weeks, keep an eye out.

Emma Jean Sturgess, much improving restaurant critic at The Metro, scored the restaurant at 4 stars today. Out of five, it’s high praise from La Sturgess. Chef Adrian Bailey is making a name for himself slowly but surely; service is sometimes slipshod according to three ManchesterConfidential.com readers over the past few months but Adrian’s front of house team have tightened up so we have been told. Click here for full information on the restaurant.

Market Restaurant

Gordo took Howard Sharrock for dinner last week, before the Simple birthday party. This delightfully quirky restaurant was voted restaurant of the year last year in the Food and Drink festival awards, a popular choice. It’s a bit like being on the set of ‘Allo ‘Allo; run by Peter, Anne and Mary Rose, the food was a sheer delight. Again, look out for the official Gordo review. They have buggered off on holiday for August, but well worth putting in the diary for September. Review will be published first week in September.

Grill on the Alley

The old Est Est Est opposite Panacea re-opened with a party on Thursday. A likeable looking menu, including Lobster, Kobe Beef and specials, a good offering of fish as well. The place opens to the public Monday the 7th. Rumour has it that there is a big party on Saturday night to which Gordo hasn’t been invited. Hmmm…. Maybe Darth Horrocks got there first.

Luso

Opens on the 21st of this month on Bridge Street. This is interesting because it is a> not another mock Italian Bistro, b> family owned and run and c> Portuguese cuisine, as the delightful owners, Jane and Carlos Cortes are Portuguese. Jane is a looker. Carlos is ex- restaurant bar and Grill here in Manchester, as is the chef, the irrepressible David Bright. David has promised Gordo that his own version of Salt Cod will be on the menu. The sign in the window reads as follows

“We are delighted to announce the forthcoming opening of Luso.

At Luso our food is inspired not only by the traditional cuisine of Portugal but also from former provinces such as Macau, Brazil, Goa, Africa and Japan. The Portuguese explorers introduced vindaloo spices to India, clam chowder to the people of America and tempura cooking to Japan.

You may remember Carlos from the his time as general manager at the Restaurant Bar and Grill in Manchester and latterly Piccolinos in Knutsford and Stockton Heath. Our team in the kitchen is managed by David bright who joins us directly from the Restaurant Bar and Grill via Mash and Air, Lounge 10 and The Lincoln.

We hope to welcome you to Luso in the very near future.”

Pesto

Another new restaurant opens. Soon. Well, knock me down with a feather duster, an Italian on John Dalton Street! That makes three hundred and ninety six within a 300 yard radius. It had better be somewhat more on the boil than their PR department.

Ring Ring. “Hello, it’s ManchstesterConfidential.com here, can I speak to the person looking after PR as we would like to let our readers know about you. All 85,000 of them.” Says Gordo.

“We no wan have PR”. Click.

That rates a blimey Mr. Schofield.

Arighi’s Café Bar.

Up market supplier of furniture to the higher echelons of Cheshire’s bourgeoisie, Arighi Bianchi in Macclesfield, have a fairly good caff, helpfully their PR company has sent us the new menu. It looks good as it happens, but unfortunately it has been delivered on part of a tree wrapped in plastic. Digital would have been good, apart from saving trees, we would have put it on line. Gordo’s team are too lazy to type it up. That’s what PR girlies are for, apart from falling over pissed at opening parties.

Gordo would like to congratulate young Master Sam Lomas, age 10, from Bollington Cross Primary School, on winning the Arighi Café Star Competition. Apparently, young Master Taylor Blake, age 12, who works for his mum at Moving Manchester just missed winning because he couldn’t spell.

B Lounge at Bridge Street Tavern
Gordo is off for dinner there next week, it’s been a while now since Rob closed the pub down and B Lounge took over. Any comments from you lot? click here to let Gordo know. Bottle of Prosecco from Gordo’s pal who owns the vineyard in Italy to the most interesting.
