Get ready for Liverpool Food Lovers Festival

Tighten your belts. The biggest celebration of food and drink ever to take place within the city is under a month away.

The Liverpool Food Lovers Festival starts on Monday September 3 and promises some mouth-watering events from local food producers over two weeks.

The celebration, organised by North West Fine Food, will start with a special gourmet dinner at London Carriage Works, created by head chef Paul Askew.

For intolerant people - that's people intolerant of wheat, dairy and other nasties - there will also be an alternative gourmet night at Delifonseca in the second week.

And don't forget the record breaking attempt for the world's tallest sandwich, a chocolate fantasy evening, fish dishes on the Mersey Ferries and a one off 1,000 pint giveaway from local breweries.

We'll be telling you in detail about all of these events over the next few weeks as the list grows, and will be bringing you exciting offers and exclusive deals from producers, restaurants and bars taking part in the Liverpool Food Lovers Festival, so keep checking back and opening those emails.

As well as the fun food events, the festival will also showcase talented young chefs, with a cook off at the Malmaison Brassiere for them, and a special section for food writers.

Liverpool Confidential can be very boastful when it comes to the cooking talents of its own, but on this illustrious occasion, we have bowed to the superior knowledge of our very own Gordo.

Gordo will muster his considerable gastronomic abilities in the Mal kitchens against lily livered opposition from whoevertheymightbe to be crowned king of the cook off at the end of the day. So get your bets on now. It's a given.

We've already told you about a competition asking for photographs of Liverpool families sharing food, and Liverpool Confidential is stumping for a slap up feast for the family featured in the best picture. So get eating and snapping.

All food and drink featured throughout the fortnight will highlight the finest local producers – and there are a great many around here - and will comprise a wide range of food and drink offerings for everyone to enjoy.

For people who really love their food and drink this is one to take part in and the latest list of events is here.

The Liverpool Food Lovers Festival is supported by the Mersey Partnership, LiverpoolConfidential.com, Livesmart 08 and Liverpool Capital of Culture with more partners to be announced.
