Zutons' Valerie is most popular karaoke number

Zutons' Valerie is most popular karaoke number

ARE you Amy Winehouse? Do you fantasise in front of the mirror that you are on the main stage at Glastonbury belting out Mr Brightisde with The Killers? Or can you actually sing Robbie Williams' Angels without bumming a single note.

It doesn't matter how good or bad you are, with a microphone and a private karaoke suite you can say goodbye to singing in front of a room of strangers – and all your your inhibitions - and hello to a rocking night out that only your nearest and dearest ever need know about.

Private karaoke has been going in Asia for decades and now it has come to Liverpool with the opening of the Vocal Rooms just before Christmas.

Situated above the Rat and Parrot in Queen Square, The Vocal Rooms is the city's first private karaoke venue with three singing rooms for eight, 10 and 12 people. Each room is plush, private, 100 per cent sound proof, has over 5,000 songs that you bring up at the push of a button, plus waiter service (or fluffers) to answer your every beverage need.

Just close the door and you are away.

Exclusively for Liverpool Confidential, The Vocal Rooms has drawn up a list of its most requested songs in Liverpool in November and December.

Nationally, Angels holds the top spot for budding Robbie Williamses, but it barely gets a look in here, where the mic has been firmly passed to the Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse version of Valerie, penned of course, by Liverpool's Zutons.

Perennial favourite Dancing Queen, by ABBA, is also relegated to the bottom of the chart while Sex on Fire, by Kings of Leon, is the Liverpool surprising number two.

The national top 10 (as compiled by the Performing Rights Society) is below with the Liverpool top 20 after that. Ed Grant, who runs the Vocal Rooms, revealed: “Valerie was the stand out winner, sung twice as many times as the nearest other song.

“I’m surprised that Kenny Rogers and Kings of Leon were so high, but other than that, most of the songs were as expected. There were also no Beatles songs in the top 20, not even Hey Jude, which was disappointing.”
