THE “godfather of grunge”, Neil Young is to play Liverpool for the first time in 40 years.
The 67-year-old Canadian will be joined by his long-time collaborators, Crazy Horse, as part of his summer 2013 tour.
It is being billed as the opening act of the Liverpool International Music Festival.
The tour represents Young’s first UK dates since 2009 which included headline sets at Glastonbury, the Isle of Wight festival and Hard Rock Calling, as well as his first UK dates with Crazy Horse (Frank ‘Poncho’ Sampedro, Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina) since 2001.
Young, founder member of sixties folkies Buffalo Springfield and later the fourth member of Crosby, Stills and Nash, last played Liverpool in 1973, an Empire gig.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse recently completed a North American tour and are next scheduled to tour Australia and New Zealand inMarch.
