20 years ago The Stone Roses released their eponymous album, declared by the NME as 'the greatest album of all time'. To celebrate the anniversary Sony have commissioned the album's original producer, John Leckie, to re-master the album in collaboration with Ian Brown.
Exactly 20 years on from the Roses' legendary Empress Ballroom concert on August 10, Sony are releasing a Collectors' Edition box set comprising of the re-mastered album, a DVD of the Empress Ballroom show, a further CD with a complete set of re-mastered B sides and non-album A sides, plus a third CD of previously unheard demos including the never heard before song, 'Pearl Bastard'.
The material is duplicated on three heavyweight vinyl albums which are also included in the box set. The set also contains a lemon-shaped USB memory stick with John Leckie's home movie footage of the making of 'Fool's Gold' at the Sawmills Recording Studio.
Also in the set is a 48-page bound book containing many of Ian Tilton's previously unseen photographs of the band, new interviews with band members, a poem and sketch created specially for the set by Reni, plus interviews with high profile fans and others involved in the creation of the original album. Finally, there are six 12-inch card art prints by John Squire.
In the run up to the re-mastered album's release, five classic singles: 'Elephant Stone', 'Made of Stone', 'She Bangs the Drums', 'Fool's Gold' and 'One Love' will be released weekly throughout July and into August as re-mastered 7-inch singles and on iTunes.
The website www.thestoneroses20.com has gone live and will be regularly updated with news on the releases. There are free Stone Roses podcasts which can be downloaded from the site or direct from iTunes here.
