PALOMA Faith and Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle have been confirmed as the first two headliners of Liverpool Sound City which, this year, runs from Wed 19th – Sat 22nd May.

The festival of concerts, debates and other events, which takes place in 35 city centre venues, has also confirmed Sire Records founder Seymour Stein as the first of its keynote speakers, plus Wave Machines, Hook & the Twin, Grosvenor (no, not the Duke of Westminster Grosvenor) and Gold Panda joining the line up. There will be more to follow.

Faith, headlining the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on the first night, is making headlines of her own right now with news that she has taken part in Shane MacGowan's alternative Haiti fundraiser single, Put A Spell On You, alongside Johnny Depp, Mick Jones and Chrissie Hynde.

“I'm so excited to perform at such a prestigious event, Liverpool is supposed to be the centre of the arts in Britain and that's where I want to be, smack bang in the centre of the arts!” she reckons.

Rapper Debelle will be headlining O2 Academy Liverpool on Friday 21st May and tickets go on sale Friday Feb 4.

What with the success of its spin-off in Dubai last December, Liverpool Sound City's organisers are putting the event, now in its third year, firmly on the map of urban music festivals. It was named Top City Festival 2009 by Sunday Times Culture magazine and the 2009 Critics Pick in The Independent.

Festival Director Dave Pichilingi said “Liverpool Sound City is about being the coolest and most exciting city centre music festival in the world. With Sound City we bring together the greatest new music and art from all over the world. Together with this we welcome the key execs, mavericks, new entrepreneurs and industry players from the international arena of music, media and technology businesses...”
