Evolution festival goes west to Lancs

ONE of the UKs biggest dance, indie and urban festivals, Evolution, has announced that it will be taking part in the Preston Guild 2012 celebrations.

‘G-volution’ will  be so named in honour of the Guild, a year-long celebration of cultural, sports and civic events held every 20 years.

Avenham Park, PrestonAvenham Park, PrestonEvolution,  has been attracting crowds in the North East since 2002. It will call at Preston’s Avenham Park on Saturday September 8 and hopes to attract 15,000 people.

Acts are yet to be confirmed but Evolution organisers this month announced the line up for the North East festival which will take place in June. Headliners at the Newcastle event include Dizzee Rascal, Deadmau5, Noah and the Whale and Maximo Park and, they say, the Preston event is set to attract similar.

Tickets will go on sale when they have some clue as to who they are dealing with.

The G-volution festival will take place during ten days of cultural, sporting and civic events from 31 August to 9 September which will form the culmination of the Guild year.

Other events due to take place during the Guild City Festival in September include Preston’s Proms in the Park which will be headlined by José Carreras and WE PLAY Expo –the North West’s closing celebration for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Fern Britton will host the live event, which will be broadcast on the BBC, from Preston city centre on Good Friday, 6 April. As well as anchoring the live event, she will also introduce three short pre-recorded dramas, which will be shown simultaneously on a big screen in Preston and on BBC One.
