Saddle soar

This Sunday the city hosts one of the largest mass participation cycling events in the country. The Liverpool-Chester-Liverpool bike ride, now in its 16th year, is back and more than 2,200 people are set to take to the pedals this year. The race, which covers no less than 90 miles if you go the whole hog, is designed to suit all abilities. Sporty competitive or complete novice, even families coping with stabilisers can take part in the event. Pre-entry has already closed but you can still turn up on the day, choose your distance and get going. Refreshments are provided along the way and there will be a mini cycle show to entertain crowds arriving back in the 'Pool.

*Liverpool Chester Liverpool bike ride, Sun 5th July, at the Queensway Tunnel entrance.

Identity crisis

Cologne-based multimedia art fiends Angie Hiesl and Roland Kaiser (who are not twins) launch an interesting exhibition at the Bluecoat this Friday. The doppelgänger devotees ask 'How do I Know I am Me?' before exploring peculiarities in the phenomenon that is identical twins. Identity and human cloning are thrown into the mix of this unique, thought provoking live art project.

*Twins: How do I Know I am Me?, A Foundation at the Bluecoat, Fri 3rd July, 8pm, tickets £7, £5 concessions, for more information call 01517025324

Luke at this

Movie mania hits the bombed out church once more this weekend thanks to the Urban Strawberry Lunch chaps. Three cinematic classics have been chosen to take up the outdoor screen and from around 9pm each evening it will be chairs, blankets and picnics a many as The Day The Earth Stood Still, Nosferatu and La Belle Et La Bete play out beneath the stars.

*Classic films at St. Lukes Church, Fri 3rd, Sat 4th and Sun 5th July, from 9.15pm, a donation is requested on the door

Star spangled

Static Gallery has joined forces with Candie Payne to arrange Americana, an Independence Day saluting soiree which takes place on Saturday afternoon. The free event will offer authentic American food, drink and music. Expect hot dogs, southern fried chicken, pancakes, apple pie, brownies and whole host of other calorific munches. The Nashville Liverpool Underground Medicine Show and Loose Moose String Band will be taking care of the music. With any luck the groups will be even more entertaining than they sound.

*Americana, Unit 4, Static Gallery, Sat 4th July, 11am - 8pm, free
