According to the newspapers, we're all skint nowadays. And if we're not, we will be soon, so we'd better start saving the pennies now. The term 'staycation' hasn't quite caught on yet – but the trend for economising by swapping exotic climes for UK resorts is apparently taking off. But is it actually any cheaper to holiday closer to home?
They've compared the price of their two-week, all-inclusive holiday in
St. Lucia in August with the cost of a two-week break in a Cotswolds cottage, and calculated that the latter is more expensive.
St. Lucia Tourist Board, unsurprisingly, think not. They've compared the price of their two-week, all-inclusive holiday in St. Lucia in August with the cost of a two-week break in a Cotswolds cottage, and calculated that the latter is more expensive.
They add up the cost of the Cotswolds cottage, petrol, day trips, meals out, and daily ice creams for a family of four and get to the figure of £3630.
Meanwhile a two-week holiday for a family of four in St. Lucia comes to £3576. This includes return flights from Manchester with Virgin Atlantic, transfers to the four star Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa and all-inclusive accommodation (including breakfast, lunch and dinner, kids club and watersports activities.)
So you save yourself £54. There's also the fact that St. Lucia is a tropical paradise. The stunning lush scenery and the majestic Piton peaks creates a landscape that is truly breathtaking. The Cotswolds is pretty but it can hardly compete.
