Manchester Christmas Lights Switch-On

Albert Square bursts into Christmas life this Friday. There’ll be fireworks to make you go ‘oooh’ and entertainment to make you go ‘aaah’. Or even ‘ha-ha’. Or possible, ‘eh?’

But whatever your reaction as a spectacle this will be one to enjoy. Entertainment galore, live music, family fun and then those fireworks and the festive illumination of the city centre – including that big cuddly Santa standing over the Town Hall steps.

Hosted by Key103’s Mike and Chelsea, Manchester gets all this on Friday:

- A special performance by The X Factor winner Joe McElderry.

- Star guests from Coronation Street.

- The cast of Queen and Ben Elton's musical We Will Rock You, led by Noel Sullivan, which is at the Palace Theatre this Christmas, will perform classic Queen tracks guaranteed to get you singing along.

- Thomas Law, Eastenders’ Pete Beale, who will make his stage debut in Peter Pan: A Musical Adventure at The Lowry this Christmas.

- Cast appearances from the Opera House’s seasonal pantomime, Snow White.

- Cbeebies characters the Zingzillas.

- Characters from The Library Theatre’s 2010 Christmas Production at The Lowry - A Christmas Carol.

- Kendal’s celebrating 175 years in Manchester will also invite Santa to leave his grotto in the city’s largest toy department and be part of the festivities, greeting the crowds.

- The Greater Manchester Police Band, Richie Sampson’s Drifters and Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Liam McNally will complete the line-up.
