Heather Smith and her weekend whirl

The colour of art, electro pop, John Head and a park in the dark. Don't complain there's nothing to do. Alright?

Anyone who had a chart
Pink shirts for men would have, in the bygone day, been unacceptable. Perhaps it should have stayed that way, but that’s not the point. Colour, in all the creative industries, be it fashion or interior design, comes and it goes.

A new Tate exhibition, which opens to the public on Friday, illustrates how colour, in art, has re-invented itself over time.

The sexily titled: “Colour Chart: Reinventing Colour, 1950 to Today”, looks to the middle of the 20th century, when artists and we're not talking Laurence Lllewelyn Bowen here, became bold, bright and matter-of-fact in their colour choices, without a Dulux chart in si

The work of more than 40 artists features in the vibrant display, which runs until mid-September: Andy Warhol, Yves Klein, Richard Serra, Damien Hirst and Cory Archangel in among the undiluted mix.
*Colour Chart, Tate Liverpool, until 13th Sept, admission £8 adults, £6 concessions, Tate members and under 12s go free

Are friends electro?
UNSURE of what's happening at Creamfields this summer? This weekend gives a little preview as Chibuku presents live performances from Friendly Fires and Delphic, bands who are both doing at turn there in August.

Don’t be caught out though. Turning up to the regular Chibuku venue, Barfly, on the regular Chibuku night, Saturday, and waving your tenner, will get you nowhere.

This FRIDAY, Chib loyalists need to shake, shake, shake, their booty down to Wolstenholme Square and into NATION where all the live electro action will be buzzing.

A clubbing must for studes and old school synthetic popsters.
*Chibuku, Nation’s courtyard, Fri 29th May, tickets £15/£12, call 0151 706 80451

Dusky springfield
Ever wondered what creatures lurk in the park of a weekend when the sun sets? The legal kind, that is? Well wonder no more.

Rangers at Wirral’s Royden Park are inviting curious types to join them on a two-hour Dusk Walk, to point out just exactly what is what in late pm park life.

Suitable for all the family, the free event will run from 9.30pm to 11.30pm. There is no need to book, just meet at the rangers’ office in plenty of time.

Walkers are advised to bring warm clothing, suitable footwear and drinking water. Or should that be White Lightning?

Head heritage
ORIGINALLY guitarist with The Pale Fountains, then guitarist, singer and songwriter with Shack, John Head, younger brother of Michael, is these days a solo performer, and he is bringing his show to the O2 Academy 2 on Saturday night.

In 2008, John Head did a video for the BBC titled How to be A Musician. An amateur he is not.

The three-act strong support bill features Ro, Skin Tyson & Pete Wilkinson in the line up, and that’s before the main man himself struts on.

Not bad for your £10.
*John Head, O2 Academy 2, Sat 30th May, 7pm, tickets £10, call ticketweb on 08444 77 2000
