Gordo, the publisher of Manchester Confidential, was recently dubbed a ‘cuddly Jeremy Clarkson’ by his Come Dine With Me co-contestants.
Now he’s taken it a step further by getting his hands on Top Gear’s famous Toyota Hilux that made it all the way to the North Pole in 2006.
The legendary car is rolling into Manchester’s North Pole bar this morning, next to the former Urbis building, and you can give it the once over. You can also have your picture taken with the car, as a special Christmas prezzie from the North Pole Bar.
Clarkson and co-presenter James May drove the specially-modified truck to the Magnetic North Pole, racing Richard ‘Hamster’ Hammond on a dog sled
The truck is an absolute beast. The standard wheels and tyres were replaced with 38" studded snow tyres. The wheel arches were raised and extended and the standard three litre engine was modified to cope with the low temperatures.
The specially-fitted 90 litre auxiliary fuel tank was knocked off the car by Clarkson while driving through ice, although this was nothing new for the Hilux. The vehicle had already been floated out to sea, set on fire, and put on top of a high-rise tower before it was demolished on previous episodes of Top Gear.
It’s also survived having Gordo in the passenger seat – something which usually sparks fear into other road users, passengers and local speeding enforcement officers across Manchester.
Now you can see it for yourself– all you have to do is get yourself down to the North Pole bar by 6pm. And there won’t be a polar bear in sight.
