FANCY a bit of cheese with your whiskey? Jameson, the Irish distillery people, are running a countrywide “Cult Film Club” that's not just for Celts this forthcoming spooky season.
Here in Liverpool that translates as a showing of Dracula at St George's Hall, on October 28.
It's the original 1958 flick from the masters of camped-up horror, Hammer, which sparked a long series of ever-more fanciful movies chronicling the capers of our caped Transylvanian.
Christopher Lee, the star, became the film industry's most memorable Count - but lots of people had only good things to say about him.
Running at a number of venues around the UK which are selected for their atmospheric qualities, “the impressive, haunted St George's Hall” event will be hosted by Stephen Graham, star of films such as Snatch and This is England, who, as a born and bred Liverpudlian, helped Jameson curate the event.
The film showing will be enhanced by actors, props and some special surprises, say organisers, with “refreshingly smooth Jameson cocktails” available on the night. That's fighting talk.
Graham said: “I see cult films as an integral part of the make-up of the film industry in which I work in today. What other films will provide us with such a wealth of inspiration and challenge us to push boundaries beyond convention? I see Dracula as having done just that. It is one of those true, genre-defining films that formed a benchmark for all other horror filmmakers.”
