TV presenter Davina McCall will be making a special Sefton Park drop this Sunday, joining Olympian Jess Varnish at the starting line for Sky Ride Liverpool.
Thousands of cyclists are expected to take advantage of the traffic-free streets of Liverpool, closed off for the first stage of the Tour of Britain, which is also taking place in Liverpool on Sunday.
The pair will be at Sefton Park at 9am on Sunday (near the Obelisk monument at the junction of Croxteth Drive and Aigburth Drive).
Sky Ride is a national fitness campaign between Sky TV and British Cycling.
McCall said: "The Sky Ride Big Bike Event is going to be EPIC! In just a few days’ time, I'm going to be cycling through your beautiful city on traffic-free streets, and getting involved in all the entertainment that's being laid on as well! Bring it on, Liverpool, I can't wait!”
Cyclists will ride an 8km route passing the Albert Dock and the Anglican Cathedral on their way to the waterfront
Everyone that registers for a free place at Sky Ride Liverpool before the event will be entitled to a free expert bike-check (worth £14.99) at Halfords.
On the day, people can join the route anywhere and any time from 9am up until 12:30pm.
Varnish added: “The atmosphere at Sky Ride is like a festival. It’s a great celebration of cycling and there will be loads going on. It’s an amazing opportunity to ride on closed roads in Liverpool and to see your town from two wheels, totally traffic-free.”
Liverpool’s Assistant Mayor and Cabinet Member for culture and tourism, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “It’s fantastic news that a household name like Davina is going to have her first Sky Ride experience in Liverpool. We look forward to giving her a warm scouse welcome.”
Don’t worry if you don’t have a bike, the council says. There will be some to borrow from citybike for a small fee. Visit here to sign up to pay to hire a bike or for more details.
