This brand new event is the only urban swim of its kind in the city region and is coming to Salford on Sunday 26 September. There are no lanes, walls or chlorine, just the great outdoors!

This fantastic race is part of a series of great swims up and down the UK, and Salford is proud to host the first swim of its kind in the city. The swim will take place over a mile course around The Quays and is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Take the plunge, enter today and join the 1700 swimmers already signed up to this amazing event and take part in this unique challenge.

It is just £30 to enter which includes your entry fee, event pack (Great Swim swim hat to keep and timing chip), Great Swim souvenir medal and t-shirt, not to mention the huge sense of achievement.

You’ll also have the chance to pick up some tips and inspiration from some of the world’s best open water swimmers as they go head-to-head in the final event in the British Gas Great Swim Series. There will be a real clash of the titans between multiple world champion and Olympic medallist Thomas Lurz and world champion tri-athlete Alistair Brownlee.

As well as the elite men’s showdown the British Gas Great Salford Swim will also feature races for junior elite women and men. Cassie Patten – winner of the British Gas Great London Swim – will be in Salford on the day as Great Swim Series ambassador and roving reporter.

Even if you’re not taking to the water, the British Gas Great Salford Swim is still a fantastic event for spectators. You can enjoy free entry at a venue that is tailor-made for viewing what should be some world-class swimming action – there are great vantage points right around the course, which takes in several different sections of The Quays.
