A day at the races

If you want something exciting to look forward to this summer then why not consider a day at the races? As the oldest racecourse in the UK, Chester Racecourse is the ultimate place to watch horse-racing – and it's only a short drive from Manchester and Liverpool.

If you’re looking for a more civilised night out with the girls then Ladies Evening on Friday 24 June may be better suited to you. An evening full of glamour, there’s over £1,000 worth of prizes up for grabs with a Best Dressed Lady competition sure to get you slipping on your finest garments.

There are 14 race days over the summer months kicking off with the three-day May Festival, starting with the Totesport Cup Day on Wednesday 4 May. With an average attendance of 23,000 at each race day last year, you won’t be alone in your decision to spend a day drinking Pimms and having a flutter on the horses. With over £10m being invested in the course in recent years including work on improving facilities, 1539 Restaurant & Bar and the Paddock redevelopment, the racecourse is more than equipped to keep you entertained.

At last year’s Sunday Fun Day, 43,000 people turned up to soak up the sun and the electric atmosphere. The Family Fun Day returns on Sunday 31 July this year with donkey rides, a climbing wall and inflatable games to keep the kids happy. The first race commences at 2.25pm with the last race leaving the starting gates at 5.10pm.
