Magnet and Korova to reopen

Hardman Street area to get its music mojo back

Magnet and Korova to reopen

THE arson-hit Korova premises is set to reopen in the autumn – but with a new name and operator.

The news comes as just around the corner, a proper old legendary venue prepares to open soon - The Magnet.

Korova, meanwhile, one of the club brands owned by recently-bankrupted Rob Gutmann, went up in flames a year ago after a fire started in solicitors' offices upstairs. The crime remains unsolved and police have closed the file.

The landlords of the three-storey building – Liverpool Investment Solutions - said the ground floor of 32 Hope Street will become a shop and the basement will be a bar and restaurant.

They are looking for a new operator.

No new operator needed for The Magnet, which plans to spring back to life soon with a management who were part of the original team. One insider told Liverpool Confidential they are vowing to take it back to its spiritual roots from the start of this century at least - when it was somewhere good to go.

Before that, of course, it was known as The Sink where members were required to carry a sink plug in order to gain entry.

Big history. The club hosted major bands from across the world and it was the place where Freddie Mercury and Brian May first met and subsequently decided to form Queen. Beatles fans too, come to the place where John Lennon artwork is believed to be all over the walls, but now covered.

Changes to the venue and opening party to be announced soon. Watch this space.
