Homotopia in £210k funding U-turn

IF you don't ask, you don't get.

Homotopia, the only lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual -combined arts organisation in the north of England, has been awarded three year funding worth £210,000 after complaining to the Arts Council when when its bid for cash was turned down.

Liverpool based Homotopia applied to become a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) earlier this year, but it was vetoed along with over 600 others.

It and 27 other organisations complained. Three complaints were upheld and reassessed – one of them Homotopia.

Homotopia Director Gary Everett says he is delighted with the decision: “Over the last eight years we have grown from an annual local arts festival into an organisation delivering a national and international programme of arts, social justice and education initiatives 365 days of the year. I believe this funding acknowledges the exceptional quality of the art we deliver and the valuable work we do to tackle hate crime, bullying and prejudice through our award winning Project Triangle.”

Homotopia becomes a NPO from 2012. It is already in receipt of a Grant For The Arts from Arts Council England for this year as well as ongoing financial support from the City of Liverpool which means that it will be able to stage Homotopia 2011.

Highlights of this will include the premieres of Cruising, Clubbing and Fucking, by Joseph Mercier, and At Swim Two Boys by Earthfall; Pin Ups a world premiere exhibition of new portraits by Sadie Lee including Rita Tushingham and David Hoyle, and the first Alternative Miss Liverpool.

So the country is on it's financal knees and I and my wife are subsidizing something called Cruising, Clubbing and Fucking, to the tune of a quarter of a mil? Unbelievable.

you forgot to mention the tackling of hate crime, prejudice and bullying, creativity is the forte of many lgbt people and there are very few organisations representing them in the north, so buzz off anonymous

Oh Anonymous, if I were you and your wife, I'd be more concerned at spending half a million pounds on every single missile we fire trying to knock Gadaffi's hat off. Much better to spend it subsidising those 3 activities mentioned above.

I mean for heavens sake, they are three things we could all enjoy. Wouldn't you like to take your wife on a nice cruise or to a club or.........Ahem!

What I mean is if we are all on our knees, because we are subsidising the banks and they have well and truly cruised us....no, the other one I mean.
