A LITHERLAND-born designer whose illustrations of Liverpool landmarks are a familiar sight at craft fairs has won the gig to design the official print merchandise for Liverpool’s giant event.

Freida McKitrick, who works out of the Baltic's Elevator Studios, was approached by Culture Liverpool to design the prints and cards for the Memories of August 1914 event at the end of this month.

And the pen and ink drawings, which show the Little Girl Giant and her pet Xolo outside St George’s Hall, have earned a unanimous thumbs up from Nantes outfit Royal De Luxe who are behind the event.

Executive Producer from Royal de Luxe, Gwen Raux, said: “The image and portrayal of our giants is very important to us and we always want anything produced to be in-keeping with how we want these special characters to be depicted.

Freida MckitrickFreida McKitrick“When we saw Freida’s designs we thought they were beautiful and complemented the event perfectly. They capture the magic of the event and will be a great way for people to be able to take a bit of that magic away with them.”

Freida said she felt  "privileged and delighted" to have been chosen.

The merchandise can be bought from the Tourist Information Centres located at the Albert Dock and Lime Street Station, as well as the heritage centre in St George’s Hall. They can also be purchased via www.giantspectacular.com or at the official merchandise pop up shops that will be in the city during the event which runs from 23-27 July. Please note, the merchandise will not be available to purchase in person or online until Friday 18 July.

Cards cost £2.50, the small prints are just £5 and the larger ones are £15.

There will also be a selection of other merchandise available including t-shirts, a limited edition silk screen, a jigsaw puzzle and a magnetic dress-up set.
