After seemingly endless roadworks made themselves at home outside cobbler Bernie Raynard’s shop, he decided to capitalise on the problem, creating a mug which immortalised the bane of his life and bearing the legend: Liverpool: Capital of Cones.
His shop, Inscript Engraving and Shoe Repair, on Victoria Street, has, in recent times, been held siege by dozens of amber and white witch's hats, otherwise known as the generic road cone – the villainous symbol of the Big Dig.
They caught on and sold in massive quantities: Even Phil Redmond bought 100 in which to dunk his Ginger Nuts.
Now the emboldened Bernie has gone a stage further with a new gold mug featuring the Superlambanana, complete with a cone on its tail.
Luckily, we were still able to get our hands on five which we want to give away to you lot. Don’t be a mug – enter your details below.
