Flavours is a Thai and Indian restaurant on Manchester Road, between Whitefield and Bury. Confidential went there last week to see what it's all about and found ourselves in curry heaven. It's a smart-looking, spacious restaurant pitched at people who want something a little more upmarket than your average Indian. The menu spans Indian and Thai cuisine and includes all the Anglo favourites such as korma, jalfrezi, saag aloo and so on.But there's also some hard-to-find dishes that show this isn't just baltis-by-numbers. On the specials board, you'll find a selection of more unusual dishes that the chefs have been cooking up to keep things interesting. When we went, they were serving a lamb hydrabadi – a subtle dish with hints of spinach, coriander and mint. For a starter, we'd had batata vada – another elusive dish in the UK. These little balls of spiced, fluffy mashed potato coated in chick pea batter were fantastic. Better than an onion bahji and worth the trip to Bury alone. So, we went expecting another run-of-the-mill Indian and came away with two new favourites to look out for.
Flavours also specialises in Thai food – the garlic duck on the specials board proved to be a hit. The Thai green curry was pretty good too. Beverage wise, you've got Kingfisher on tap, a wide choice of wines and champagnes, and all the spirits you could hope for. There's a nice little bar area where you can have your pre or post-meal drinks.Upstairs there's a function room which is available for hire. They're going to start doing a set-priced buffet in there on Fridays and Saturdays when the restaurant downstairs tends to be full.If you'd like to try Flavours for yourself (and if you live in North Manchester, you really ought to), you'll find it on the edge of Whitefield, in the spot that Est Est Est used to inhabit. There's a car park out back.Flavours is giving away a meal for four including wine to one lucky Confidential reader. To enter, fill out your details in the form below.Like what you see?
