Liverpool University Press is giving away five sets of Astrid Kirchherr: A Retrospective and Stuart Sutcliffe: A Retrospective to some lucky Liverpool Confidential readers.
Featuring never-before-seen photographs of the Beatles, Astrid Kirchher: A Retrospective was published to accompany the current VG&M exhibition of the same name. Hamburg photographer Kirchherr met the Beatles when they made their first visit to Hamburg in 1960. She became close friends with the then unknown group, and took a series of individual and group photographs of them.
More than just a photographer to the Beatles, however, Kirchherr has been a significant international presence in photography over the past 50 years. Images featured in the book go beyond Merseybeat, and include Kirchherr’s images of the Hamburg scene, photographs of Liverpool and holiday shots of herself and the Beatles taken in Tenerife.
Kirchherr is also famed for her relationship with Stuart Sutcliffe, the original bass player for the Beatles, and a talented artist, who left the group and studied art in Hamburg before his death in 1962. Stuart Sutcliffe: A Retrospective, charts his life as a student and includes colour images of his artwork and photographs of Sutcliffe and his contemporaries, including the Beatles.
What’s more, if you don’t win, we’re offering both books at the discounted price of £18.99 for the set plus postage. Just contact Janet Smith on 0151 795 2149 or at email@example.com and quote the code LivConf2010.
