Who would be the ideal scouse to rent out a spare room in your house? Paul McCartney, apparently, according to almost a third of the people in Liverpool who were asked by the self storage company Big Yellow (although one imagines he'd be barred by many landlords from bringing home his mate, Ringo).
Confidential doesn't normally run survey stories, but when Big Yellow Storage said that they would whack in a competition prize to help three lucky readers make some money, we thought we'd better pass it on.
So how about a 25sq ft drive-in storage unit for six months at Big Yellow's new base in Mill Lane, Wavertree, worth over £200 to each of three winners?
OK, it might not be a sexy holiday in the Maldives, but think on this: According to the self storage experts, you could make a whopping £421 a month in 2009 just by clearing away the junk in your spare room, piling it into a little wee storage unit (they start as just nine sq ft) and renting out the space in your home. That’s as much as £5,057 a year they reckon.
said that they would definitely be up for renting out a room to make money. Now is the time to do so, thanks to the Government’s ‘Rent a Room’ initiative which means that you can rent space and make up to £4,250 per year tax free.
But who to have in the attic? Steven Gerrard was the second most popular choice, with a quarter (26%) of all votes, the majority of them from women (ahem, Wayne Rooney came out as one of the least popular).
The most popular female housemate, they say, would be Natasha Hamilton, voted by almost one fifth of Liverpudlians, beating of the likes of Cilla Black and Coleen. Blimey.
At Big Yellow you can store things of all shapes & sizes, with room sizes up to 400 sq ft. Each room is PIN entry access and protected by its own alarm and CCTV with access 7 days a week. See www.bigyellow.co.uk for more.
Meantime, if you think you could use 250 sq ft of storage worth more than £2,400 for six months, enter our competition today. Closing date April 24, 2009.
